Imaginal exposure is an effective tool for the treatment of PTSD. It involves providing the client with the tools to manage the anxiety associated with recalling the trauma, then assisting them to recall the trauma while learning to manage the anxiety that the memory evokes. When successfully completed, the client can recall trauma with little or no anxiety.
The workshop will address:
- diagnosis of PTSD, and differences between complex and simple trauma
- an overview of the process of imaginal exposure
- introducing the treatment approach to clients
- overcoming reluctance to engage in imaginal exposure
- anxiety management techniques to use during exposure
- starting the exposure process
- completing the exposure process
- completing therapy for PTSD
Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers and all Allied Health counsellors
