Outline of Treatment approach
Disordered breathing patterns such as mouth-breathing, over-breathing or erratic inefficient breathing may play a key role in conditions such as stress, anxiety, panic disorder and sleep problems, and can cause or contribute to symptoms.

I am a Registered Nurse and Breathing Retraining Consultant. I teach breathing retraining strategies and techniques to help people to overcome and prevent anxiety and panic symptoms and to restore a normal breathing pattern.

At my practice I offer breathing assessment and breathing retraining. The CapnoTrainer is a scientific, non-invasive test which provides immediate visual feedback on your breathing patterns. You can clearly see your breathing rate and rhythm and your heart rate, and also your end-tidal carbon dioxide levels, as you exhale. Low end-tidal carbon dioxide levels may indicate over-breathing. These are seen as graphics on a computer screen and may provide insight as to how your breathing may be contributing to your symptoms.

The breathing retraining techniques I teach are based on the Buteyko breathing method, which was developed by Russian medical doctor, Professor Konstantin Buteyko. The method has been used in Australia for over 20 years.

Since 1999, I have taught breathing retraining for people with stress, anxiety and panic attacks and I have found it to be a very successful approach for people with these conditions.
